Origin

This character combines two elements to represent a cultivated field. The right component 田 is a picture of a field divided into squares by irrigation channels. The left component 火, which normally means fire, most likely represents the sun's heat and light that crops need to grow. Together, these parts suggest a sun-warmed field where crops are actively cultivated, distinguishing it from wild or uncultivated land. This is actually a Japanese invention (called a kokuji), created by combining existing characters to fill a gap in the writing system.
