Privacy policy
Kanji Decipher is a static reference site. It has no user accounts and does not ask you for any personal information. This page explains what that means in practice.
What we collect today
- Nothing that identifies you. There are no sign-ups, no logins, and no forms.
- Your theme and language preference are stored in your browser (localStorage / a cookie). They stay on your device.
- Standard server logs. Like almost any website, the server may briefly record request data such as your IP address, the page requested, and your browser’s user-agent string, for security and debugging.
- Offline caching. A service worker stores copies of pages and assets in your browser cache so visited pages load without a connection. This data stays on your device.
Advertising
Kanji Decipher displays ads through Google AdSense to cover hosting costs. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites. That data is collected and controlled by Google, not by Kanji Decipher.
You can review and control ad personalisation at myadcenter.google.com, and opt out of personalised advertising from many providers at optout.aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu. More detail is in Google’s “How Google uses information from sites that use our services”.
Analytics
None at present.
Data sources
The kanji data comes from public, freely-licensed datasets (listed on the credits page). No information about you is sent to those projects.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
